Admissions Process

Thank you for your interest in The Raleigh School. We look forward to helping you learn more about our educational program and welcome inquiries at any time during the year. In order to best acquaint yourself with our school’s learning environment and campus we encourage you to request an admissions packet and attend one of our scheduled observation mornings for prospective parents.

Observation Mornings

Observation mornings give prospective parents the opportunity to visit our campus, learn about our teaching approach, ask questions, and see our elementary classrooms in action. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend an observation morning prior to submitting an application. Please call the Admissions Office at (919) 546-0788 ext 117 to schedule.

Open House

Each fall we host an evening Open House that provides prospective parents the opportunity to learn about our educational program and meet some of our faculty. Please call the Admissions Office to reserve a space.

Application

An application is included in the admissions packet. Please complete the application and Authorization to Release School Information form and return both to the elementary office, accompanied by a photocopy of the applicant’s birth certificate and a nonrefundable $90 application fee. Once we receive the completed forms we will begin the admissions process. We’ll gather information to determine whether The Raleigh School would be an appropriate placement for the applicant. Once an admissions decision is made, parents will be notified by mail.

Kindergarten Eligibility

Each year we have space for 44 children in our kindergarten classes. For the 2009-2010 school year, applicants should turn five years old on or before August 31.

Applicant’s School Visit

First through fifth grade: Once the admissions committee has reviewed the applicant’s teacher rating scales and progress reports (when applicable) from his or her current school, and we anticipate class openings, a two-day visit to The Raleigh School will usually be scheduled.
Kindergarten: Applicants to kindergarten not currently enrolled in our preschool are required to attend an abbreviated preschool session (2 – 3 hours in duration) in one of our preschool classrooms.

Enrollment Contract

Upon an offer of admission, an enrollment packet will be mailed to the family. Enrollment is confirmed once the school receives the signed Enrollment Contract, tuition deposit, new student entry fee and Parental Acceptance of Responsibilities form.

The Raleigh School encourages a diverse student body and does not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, national and ethnic origin, or religion in admission decisions.
